Log Cabin Garden Offices

Over the last few years more and more people are choosing to work from home for various reasons, whether its to be closer to the family, cut down on commuting or to cut out the cost of renting premises, most of us want a quality office separate from our house so it’s easier to work once the office door has been closed. There are many options available but the easiest and cheapest are timber frame Garden Offices and Log Cabin Garden Offices. They both provide warmth, strength and a nice environment to work in yet are considerably cheaper and easier to install than a house extension. Being made of timber they provide a certain amount of natural insulation but can also be insulated with up to date products making them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Add double glazing, heating and even air conditioning and you have your very own building as good as any office anywhere.

With Log Cabins that are going to be used all year it is recommended that the insulated or twin skin version be used with a minimum log thickness of 35mm. This gives an outer wall of 35mm then a cavity where the insulation is placed then an internal wall of 35mm. These walls should have metal rods running through them which adds greatly to the strength of the cabins, this is a tried and tested method which has been widely used successfully for many years in Canada and the USA.

Some companies supply this style with log thicknesses of 28mm and without the metal rods which we believe is not structurally strong enough especially on larger cabins.

Insulated Log Cabins should also come with insulated roofs as warm air rises and this is where a great deal of heat can be lost. Thick floors (28mm boards) with insulation underneath and double glazed windows with weatherproof seals is also something that will keep your cabin nice and warm on those cold winter days.

Add to this that electrics such as sockets and lighting, phone lines and internet connections can be installed and the cavity between the walls can be used to hide the cabling, makes this a fantastic way for you to have a fully functional office in your garden.

To summarise Twin wall insulated Log cabins make a very good option for a garden office and are a very cost effective way of creating the space you require. They take less time and create less mess than a house extension and yet will still add value to your home if you ever choose to sell.
