About Insulated Log Cabins
Insulated Log Cabins are widely used in many colder countries than the UK as houses. Also known as Twin Wall Log
Cabins, Dual Wall Log Cabins, Double Wall Log Cabins and Twin Skin Log Cabins, they give good thermal Insulation and
durability. Designed with 2 wall layers (one outer wall and one inner wall) with a cavity or gap in between them where insulation is placed
(plus an Insulated floor and roof) they are a very snug place to be. Not only that, on those hot summer days this design also
helps to keep the building cooler. The space in betwwen the walls can also be used to place services in the Insulated log cabins
such as wiring for electric sockets and lights, computer cabling or water supplies. As previosly mentioned the
roofs and floors are also insulated to give good all round performance.
In fact the weakest link as far as thermal properties are concerned in Insulated Log Cabins is the
windows and doors. Here at Log Cabins Log Cabins we have addressed this issue in all of our Log Cabins (not just
the Insulated Log Cabins) and now use The Best Windows and Doors
Available.
Our new windows are now Tilt and turn with a 5 point locking system, added rubber weatherproof seals
and Euro double glazing
Please check this against our competitors as you will not find better.

How to work out internal measurements of Insulated Log Cabins
A = 4000mm (or 4m)
B = 220mm (or 0.22m)
B is 35mm wall log + 50mm insulation + 35mm wall log + 100mm overhang
To work out the internal measurements take away 2 x the measurement of B from the wall lenght A
Eg
A = 4000mm
B = 440mm (220mm +220mm)
Internal measurement C = 4000mm - 440mm = 3560mm
or 3.560m
Do this for each wall and you can work out your internal floor space. If any of the measurements are different for your
cabin then just use those values instead. Eg log thickness or wall length.
Information about Insulated log cabins:
We at Log Cabins Log Cabins supply the largest range of Insulated Log
Cabins in the UK. The Insulated system has been developed by our mill and perfected uisng the latest techniques and precision
tooling.. If you are considering using your cabin all year
round then we strongly recommend that you purchase an insulated cabin for its thermal values as they are second to none, wood thickness
alone does not compare to an insulated log cabin.
The Insulated Log Cabins wall
system: We supply our Insulated
Log Cabins in two wall thicknesses either 34mm x 34mm or 44mm x 44mm both of which consist of 2 wall layers -one outer wall and one inner
wall with a 50mm cavity in between which is usually filled with insulation. All walls have vertical threaded rods running
through them to hold the structure firmly together. This system is not only extremely structurely strong but
also has far greater thermal values of a normal log cabin. The cavity space in
between the walls can also be used to place/hide services, such as electrical cables, computer cabling or water supplies
etc.
Windows and doors: The weakest links as far as thermal values are
concerned in Insulated Log Cabins are the windows and doors. Log Cabins Log Cabins and our mill have worked
extremely hard to amend this issue in all of our Log Cabins and now use The Best Windows and Doors on the market today. Our new windows have a Tilt and turn meachanism with a 5-point
locking system, added rubber weatherproof seals and Euro double-glazing. Please
note: Most of our competitors do not use the new Langham style windows and doors, which is
what makes their versions of Insulated Log Cabins inferior to ours.
Roof system: The Insulated Log Cabins roof consists of 2 layers, both
sections are made from 19mm T&G boarding, however not only do you get 2 layers of wood but you also get a cavity for insulation which
will decrease any heat loss considerably. (Think of the difference it made when you had your loft insulated in your
house!)
Insulation: There are many types of insulation available today; we have chosen to supply (at extra
cost) a selection of these types that we feel offer our customers best value for money.25mm foil backed
polyurethane for thefloors and roof or "Airfoil"
Class 1
Surface Spread Flame Tested to BS 476 Part 7.
Equivalent
to 55mm Polystyrene
Floor system: The floor is made of strong
T&G boarding, which is supported by 70mm pressure treated joists, which allows insulation to be fitted under the floor if
required.
Installation:
All of our Log cabins are supplied in a kit form; all timbers are cut to size and pre-machined for perfect joints. There is no
technical no how required, as all of the wall timbers just interlock together and the roof and floor are easily nailed/screwed into
place. The only thing on any cabin that may need cutting is the width of the boards located at either end of the roof and
floor.
Note: If you think that you may need to cut anything else
then please stop immediately and contact us for advice. We also offer an installation service by our team of trained installers, appropriate
prices are located on the installation page.
